Resistance

Resistance means active action against a government, administration, state power, or refusal to obey. Resistance to oppression is a human right. In National Socialist Germany, there were various forms of resistance, including assassination attempts of Hitler, sabotage, the hiding of persecuted persons, and aiding escape. Relatively few organized resistance groups existed in Germany. These were harshly persecuted, and many of their members were imprisoned or executed. In the occupied countries, numerous individuals and groups fought against the German occupiers, including armed resistance groups. Among other things, they carried out attacks on occupation services, supply facilities or German troops (“partisans”). A large number of people involved in resistance actions in the occupied countries were imprisoned, executed or murdered without trial. Some of the prisoners had to perform forced labor as concentration camp inmates in Germany.
